A family is grieving Monday after police said their son-in-law shot and killed their daughter and granddaughter in Lauderhill after an argument escalated.

Eric Eugene Montgomery, 28, turned himself in to law enforcement when police were called to his mother's home in the 2500 block of Northwest 14th Street early Monday morning.

Montgomery is accused of killing his 34-year-old wife, Natalia Hamilton-Montgomery, and 19-year-old stepdaughter, Alexis Hamilton, after an argument at their home escalated Sunday, police said. The couple of three years also had a 7-year-old daughter together.

"I lost everything. I only have one grandbaby left. I only had one daughter. So now I have nothing," Natalia's mother, Veda Hamilton said.

Alexis was home from college on winter break and was supposed to head back to Jacksonville on Monday.

"It hurts; it pulls on the inside of you. Like destroys you," the victim's father, Willie Hamilton, said.
Police said Montgomery also shot his 73-year-old grandmother the same night. She was taken to Broward General Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to her arm.

Montgomery and his wife have a 7-year-old daughter, who was home at the time of the shootings but was not injured.

It's unclear what sparked the gunfire but relatives told Local 10's Terrell Forney there had been an argument at the home earlier in the day. That argument became so heated that other family members were called over to intervene.

"My brother is not the type of person that the news is trying to make him seem like—a straight up killer. It's nothing like that," said Tod Montgomery, the suspect's brother. "He just had a moment; lost control."
Eric Montgomery is charged with two counts of first degree murder.

"He knows his mistake. I wish he had made better judgments," his cousin, Winston Blake said.
